Professional Recognition

The National College of Advocacy and AAJ Education recognize AAJ attorney members whose efforts in pursuit of advanced legal learning and professional development distinguish themselves as Masters of Trial Law.

AAJ's Masters of Trial Law

The National College of Advocacy's Masters of Trial Law program acknowledges AAJ attorney members for their participation in AAJ continuing legal education programs. The goal of this program is to build and develop professional knowledge through a continuing commitment to improving members' trial skills and understanding of substantive law. Active participation in this program provides recognition for dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm to pursue legal education by awarding members the distinction of Fellow, Diplomate, and Champion.The Masters of Trial Law program honors AAJ Members who have shown dedication to their clients and commitment to the civil justice system through a rigorous curriculum of trial skills and legal specialty courses. Attorneys who reach these levels of achievement are recognized throughout the year, and recieve a certificate and digital signature badge to identify their status. See below for details on each level within the Masters of Trial Law program:

Fellow

To reach Fellow status, attorneys must complete 200 credit hours with AAJ Education. Attendance at any Seminar, College, Convention, or Webinar counts towards the Masters of Trial Law program. 

Fellows will recieve:

  • A printed certificate of achievement
  • A digital signature badge, identifying you as a distinguished trial attorney

Diplomate

To reach Diplomate status, attorneys must complete 400 credit hours with AAJ Education, including participation in ATLA's Ultimate Trial Advocacy Course. Attendance at any Seminar, College, Convention, or Webinar counts towards the Masters of Trial Law program.

In addition to a certificate of achievement and digital signature badge, AAJ Champions will recieve:

  • Acknowledgment on our AAJ Diplomates and Champions page
  • Annual acknowledgment in Trial magazine
  • Acknowledgment in the convention program book
  • Acknowledgment at the AAJ Annual Convention awards reception the year that you achieve Diplomate status

Champion

To reach Champion status, AAJ plaintiff members complete a set of trial advocacy programs, legal specialty programs, and AAJ conventions in order to strengthen their knowledge and skills and become a better advocate for their clients. Champions must complete 4 trial skills programs, 7 substantive programs, at least one AAJ convention, and ATLA's Ultimate Trial Advocacy Course.
