Speaking Opportunities
SPEAK AT AN AAJ EDUCATION PROGRAM
AAJ members and experts are invited to submit programming ideas for AAJ Education’s continuing legal education (CLE) programs.
Speakers
Speakers should be:
- Lawyers in good standing with AAJ who can share legal knowledge and experiences
- Non-members who can share knowledge on legal-related topics applicable to AAJ members
- Willing to provide written course materials to supplement presentation as required for CLE accreditation
Proposals
Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Relevance to AAJ members
- Practical application
- Timeliness of the subject matter/topic
Process
Applications will be reviewed by AAJ staff and presented to the National College of Advocacy (NCA) Board of Trustees, which is a committee of AAJ members who oversee education programs, and course advisors. If your application is selected for a speaking spot, you will be contacted by AAJ staff and receive more details. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and may be considered for future opportunities year after year.
Reminders
- Speakers will need to prepare a written paper to supplement their presentation. This is required for CLE accreditation. AAJ staff will provide guidelines for papers to invited speakers.
- Speakers who teach at AAJ Education programs are volunteers.
- Convention speakers who are eligible AAJ members must pay the convention registration fee and all travel-related expenses.
Program Information
Annual Convention
● AAJ’s 2020 Annual Convention in Washington, DC will take place on July 11-14, 2020.
● Submit your AAJ Education Speaker Application by September 20, 2019.
○ A general application can be submitted to speak on a wide range of CLE topics.
○ Speakers should be prepared to present on the topic they propose for 30-45 minutes.
○ Applications are presented to program education planners related to your topic.
○ All speakers and topics must be approved by the National College of Advocacy Board of Trustees.
○ Invitations for Annual Convention are extended between January and April.
● Submit your AAJ Education Speaker Application for a Litigation at Sunrise topic by March 2, 2020.
○ Speakers for our Litigation at Sunrise program are expected to present on hot, emerging topics and practice areas.
○ Speaking spots on this program are for 10 minutes.
○ All speakers and topics must be approved by the National College of Advocacy Board of Trustees. .
Winter Convention
● AAJ’s 2020 Winter Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana will take place on February 8-11, 2020.
● Submit your AAJ Education Speaker Application for a Litigation at Sunrise topic by September 20, 2019.
○ Speakers for our Litigation at Sunrise program are expected to present on hot, emerging topics and practice areas.
○ Speaking spots on this program are for 10 minutes.
Specialized Seminars
● AAJ Education hosts approximately 20 seminars each year. If you have a suggestion for a seminar topic, please apply here.
● Seminars range anywhere from 1-3 days, and they occur throughout the year and around the country.
Trial Advocacy Colleges
● AAJ Education hosts approximately 10 advocacy colleges every year. If you are interested in teaching at a college, please apply here.
● Colleges range anywhere from 2.5 - 5 days, and are hosted throughout the year and around the country.
● Colleges combine lectures with small group workshops and are designed to provide hands-on training in critical trial advocacy skills.
Webinars
● AAJ Education hosts approximately 2-4 webinars each month. If you have an idea for a webinar topic, please apply here.
● Webinars are 90-minutes long with 75 minutes of substantive content and a 15-minute question and answer period. They are hosted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 2:00 – 3:30 pm ET.
